About AI Voice Reader

AI Voice Reader is a Chrome extension that reads any web page aloud using neural AI voices. Click the icon or right-click selected text, and listen. No account, no sign-in, no monthly fee.

Why it exists

Most read-aloud extensions sound robotic, or charge a monthly subscription for voices that actually sound human. AI Voice Reader uses a small neural model that runs on your own computer, so the natural voice is genuinely free and there is no per-word charge for us to pass on to you.

How it works

On the free tier, AI Voice Reader downloads a compact neural voice model the first time you install it, then runs it locally in your browser using your GPU. Audio is synthesized on your machine. Nothing about the page you are reading is sent over the network.

On the Pro tier, you bring your own API key from a premium voice provider (ElevenLabs, OpenAI, Cartesia, and others). Your text goes directly to that provider, charged to your account on their pricing. We never see the text and never charge you per word.

Free & Pro

Free is truly free. Unlimited reading, no daily cap, no account, no trial period. An optional Pro upgrade ($29.99 one-time, not a subscription) unlocks the bring-your-own-key system for premium cloud voices.

Who built it

AI Voice Reader was built by Duncan Rawlinson, a photographer and technologist based in Canada. Part of the Simple Capture tools, which all share the same promise: local-first, no account, one-time payment, no subscription.

Privacy first

On the free tier the page text never leaves your computer. On the Pro tier, only the text you choose to read goes to the provider you configured, sent directly from your browser to their API. There is no analytics layer in between and no telemetry from us. Read the full Privacy Policy for details.
