How does activation work?

After purchase, you’ll receive a license key on the confirmation page. Open the extension, click the gear icon, and enter your key in the “I have a license key” section. Pro features activate instantly.

Is this a subscription?

No. It’s a one-time payment of $29.99. You get Pro features forever, with no recurring charges, no renewal fees, and no way for us to upsell you into a higher tier.

What does “bring your own API key” mean?

Premium voice providers like ElevenLabs and OpenAI charge per character synthesized. Most read-aloud apps mark up that cost and meter your usage to manage their margin. AI Voice Reader Pro lets you skip the middleman: paste your own API key from the provider you want to use, and the extension talks to their API directly with your key. You see the full provider catalogue and pay the provider their actual rate. We have no visibility into what you read or how much you use.

Which providers does Pro support?

At launch: ElevenLabs and OpenAI. We’ll add Cartesia, Deepgram, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Text-to-Speech, and AWS Polly based on user demand. Each provider has different voices and pricing; you choose which fits your needs.

What about cloned voices I set up on my provider account?

They appear automatically. If you have a custom voice on your ElevenLabs account (for example), it shows up in the AI Voice Reader voice picker the next time the extension fetches your voice list. We don’t handle voice cloning ourselves; that relationship is between you and your provider.

What’s the free tier limit?

There is no limit on the free tier. Unlimited reading, no daily cap, no account required. The on-device AI voice runs entirely on your computer, so there is no per-page or per-word cost we need to pass on.

Can I use my license on multiple computers?

Yes. Your license key works on any computer where you have the extension installed.

What if my key doesn’t work right after purchase?

It can take up to 30 seconds for your key to become active. If it doesn’t work immediately, wait a moment and try again. The extension will retry automatically.
